House vote to repeal the Base Load Review Act

87 state representatives voted to table a clean repeal of the Base Load Review Act. This amendment would have prevented a similar debacle from happening in the future.

The Base Load Review Act, passed in 2007, allowed utilities to charge customers billions for two now failed reactors. Now, 10 years later, energy consumers have seen their rates skyrocket and both SCE&G and Santee Cooper have pulled out of the project. Billions have been spent and there is nothing to show for it.

Legislators overwhelmingly voted against a common sense approach (reflected below) while supporting a last-minute amendment proposed by leadership passed in an off the record vote. There were also 30 representatives present but did not vote. Those votes are reflected at after those that voted to kill the repeal of the BLRA.
