On March 29, 2017 a motion was made to fast track the gas tax bill using procedural tricks. Supporters of the massive gas tax increase moved to put H. 3516, the gas tax bill, on Special Order – a priority position on the Senate’s calendar. This vote was an attempt to ram through one of the largest tax increases in South Carolina’s history.
Since Special Order is such a high priority spot on the calendar a two-thirds majority is required. Those that voted to put the gas tax on Special Order are listed below.
